David Burke

David Burke is a writer and filmmaker based in Paris since 1986. A Connecticut native, he studied at Taft School and Yale and worked in documentary films in New York for more than twenty years for PBS, ABC, NBC, and mainly at CBS News, writing and producing for Walter Cronkite, Charles Kuralt, and Dan Rather and Ed Bradley on 60 MINUTES.

In 1986 he and his filmmaker wife Joanne Burke took a yearlong sabbatical in Paris, but at the end of the year they stayed. Here David has written numerous magazine articles and blogs, the travel book MEDITERRANEAN FRANCE for Globe Pequot Press, two editions of the travel guide ACCESS PARIS for Harper/Collins along with other writing for them, and his labor of love, the book WRITERS IN PARIS, LITERARY LIVES IN THE CITY OF LIGHT, published originally by Counterpoint Press, Berkeley, now published by Paris Writers Press.

From this book leaped his popular series of literary walks, David Burke’s WRITERS IN PARIS WALKING TOURS. Meanwhile, Joanne and David have produced twelve films for their independent company Blue Lion Films, Joanne as the director and editor, David as writer and cameraman. Their latest film is the one hour documentary PARIS NOIR, AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE CITY OF LIGHT, launched in 2106.
